Here is our handcrafted infographic you would receive when you come for our tour. We hope that these information would be useful to you as you interact with migrant workers!

Other than that, migrant workers face unjustified stereotypes when they come to Singapore.

1. Migrant workers will get rich when they return home

This is not true as migrant workers have to pay exorbitant recruitment fees to secure employment in Singapore. For a worker to come to Singapore, around $15,000 is needed. The bulk of the money goes to mediators, agents and recruiters from the village. Whilst often earning only between S$250 and S$1,000 a month. They may have to take up loans too. Most workers do not last long in one company, thus compromising on their salary.

2. Migrant workers are a threat to society.

Especially after the Little India riot and deporting of radicalised migrant workers, they are seen as potential offenders who may also be involved in crimes such as theft, robbery and sexual offences. They are seen as people whose social norms are inferior to and incompatible with our way of life. However, most migrant workers are docile and consciously avoid confrontation with employers despite being unhappy with working conditions.

We hope that stereotypes against migrant workers can continue to be debunked. They are just like you and me- strong, determined, positive and resilient in coming to a foreign country to work and enduring all hardship.
